Today and tomorrow are the December 2013 graduation days, when ceremonies take place at the Philharmonic Hall on Hope Street. During the 1930s however graduation ceremonies took place in the Victoria Building (now the Victoria Gallery and Museum).
Papers of the Medical Students’ Debating Society contain amongst other things photographs and menu cards which capture occasions such as graduation or annual dinners. The occasion of conferment of the Medical Degree upon graduates of the Medical School is represented in this photograph which was taken during the 1930s. Within this many individuals can be identified including Professor R. E. Kelly and Mr C. Sydney Jones.
The signed menu card is taken from an annual dinner of the Debating Society and is decorated with caricatures of Dr. N.B. Capon (left) who was a Professor of Child Health and Mr. John N. Matthews (right) a student of the Medical School and President of the Guild of Undergraduates.
