[Edward] Heron-Allen mentioned that he knew all or most of the big people at the War Office and they all said the same thing – …  that the war was practically over now, that the Germans were beaten, & that they knew it, & we knew it, & that whenever the right time came, we can go right ahead, any moment we please.
