Undergraduate students from the university’s Nursing programme visited SCA in April as part of a workshop that was led by Dr Carolyn Lees, Senior Nursing Lecturer. The School of Allied Health Professions and Nursing had recently been awarded a sum of money from the University’s Research and Scholarship Fund to support a new project “Exploring the Past in Integrating Nursing History into a Modern Nursing Curriculum”.

The workshop enabled students to engage with nursing-related records from across Special Collections and Archives which included both published works and archival materials. Students were also able to explore artefacts and personal papers from Dr Carolyn Lee’s own nursing training and consult records on the Digital Heritage Lab – the broad range of sources provided different themes and questions for the students to consider and discuss during the session.

It was a pleasure to be able to connect the university’s heritage collections with nursing students so that they could “think critically about their professional journey”.
