Times and Daily Mail violently assail Lord Kitchener. Accuse him of having failed to supply General French with high explosive shells, thereby causing unnecessary loss on the British side. Also, they jeer him for his new advertisement for 300,000 more recruits and moving the age limit from 38 to 40 years. They announce that they will not print the advertisement.
What is behind this vendetta? Evidently Kitchener and French have quarrelled: evidently also Lord Northcliffe’s papers wish to compel conscription.
